Creative director Julian Gerighty promises “a lot to do. There are secrets to discover. There’s exploration. You can scan for opportunities.”
Massive Entertainment has spoken a lot about Star Wars Outlaws‘ planets and the activities available on them (including emergent events), but what about space? Thus far, we’ve seen Pyke ships attacked by pirates, and players can assist in return for improved standing with the Syndicate. However, creative director Julian Gerighty promised a lot more.
Speaking to IGN, Gerighty teased, “There’s a lot to do. There are secrets to discover. There’s exploration. You can scan for opportunities. And, of course, there’ll be living world events or ‘living space events’.” You might happen upon the Empire inspecting a smuggler’s ship or a wreck emitting distress beacons (which could be a trap).
Players will also explore Space Stations and look for opportunities much like in the cities, “There’ll be a cantina, there’ll be a bar, there’ll be people to talk to, there’ll be opportunities, there’ll be Sabacc tables, there’ll be secrets, there’ll be exploration.” Some of that was spotted during the Ubisoft Forward gameplay reveal.
Whether the space activities include more than intervening or space battles remains to be seen. For now, it seems the final frontier offers more than a simple area for players to pass through before landing on planets.
Star Wars Outlaws launches on August 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Head here for the latest gameplay and here to learn about the extensive accessibility features.
